World Vision

Myleene is actively involved in the work of Christian organisation World Vision. In 2006 she was the face of their 24hr Famine campaign, which urged people to go without food for 24hrs and get sponsored for it. This year's drive was aimed at Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone

In early 2006 Myleene visited Sierra Leone to find out first hand what life is like for the 100 million people that World Vision help, in over 100 different countries who are struggling against poverty, hunger and injustice.

It may have been a brief trip, but she soon discovered that thanks to the support of child sponsors, World Vision is really helping children and their communities build a better future for themselves.

Myleene quickly learned some new skills used by local people – preparing cassava, a staple food in Siera Leone, threshing maize and cracking palm nuts to produce essential oil. And towards the end of her journey she visited a World Vision Development Skills Training Centre, where young mothers affected by the recent civil war are being trained to weave tie-dye clothes to sell at the market.

Child Sponsorship works. But as Myleene found out, World Vision can only reach out to more children and communities coping with terrible poverty by attracting more child sponsors. That’s what World Vision Week for Children is all about.
