HEAR'SAY
Myleene's started her career in the lime light as one fifth of the pop group Hear'say, the result of the first experimental reality TV show 'Popstars'. The group released four singles and two albums before things fizzled out - giving Myleene the platform to re-launch her career.
History
In 2000, the first ever music reality TV show, “Popstars” launched, and formed the band “Hear’Say”, which eventually formed in February 2001. Over six weeks in 2000, thousands of hopefuls auditioned for judges “Nasty” Nigel Lythgoe, Nikki Chapman and Paul Adam, who decided on the final 10 hopefuls, five of which became Hear’Say – Kym Marsh, Noel Sullivan, Myleene Klass, Danny Foster and Suzanne Shaw. The five remaining hopefuls formed the band Liberty X.
The bands released their debut single “Pure and Simple”, which following furious promotion entered the UK Singles Chart at number one in March 2001, selling over one million copies in it’s first week, and becoming the fastest selling (non charity) single in the UK ever. Their debut album, “Popstars”, followed suit, and Hear’Say became the first band in the UK to ever have a debut single and debut album at number one at the same time. The band then released another track from their album, “The Way To Your Love”, which also went to number one.
The band toured around the UK and Ireland in huge arenas including the iconic Wembley Arena - which Myleene cites as a highlight of her career, and they then released a live DVD. Hear’Say fever swept the nation, with the band becoming immortalised as dolls, and featured on many items of merchandise. Whilst on tour, the band recorded their second album, “Everybody”. The band released their lead single “Everybody” which entered the charts at number four, and the album entered the chart at number 24.
In February 2002, Kym left the group and was replaced by Johnny Shentall, who became a member after TV auditions, the same was the original members entered the group. The band released their first, and last, single with Johnny – “Lovin’ Is Easy” which charted at number 6, which discouraged the group, and they took time out to evaluate their position in the music industry.
Hear’Say official announced their split on October 1st 2002, sighting the negative reaction they were receiving for their work as the reason behind their split.
