Myleene fronts Casio's Pianos for Schools campaign

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

Myleene has partnered with Casio to celebrate the company’s 30 year anniversary of producing world class digital pianos.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Casio launch their new Pianos for Schools initiative, aimed at encouraging children’s involvement in music and our very own Myleene will be fronting the campaign. This will see 50 pianos given to children in schools throughout the UK to enhance their music education experience, give them the chance to learn the piano and ultimately get them playing.

Speaking about the project Myleene said “The Pianos for Schools project is something I feel passionate about and it’s a great chance to get the message out there that music in education is a great thing.

I’m really pleased to be a part of this scheme as it’s so important to encourage music in schools and to give children the tools and passion for learning where we can.  Even though she is very young I encourage my daughter to play the piano and I would be so pleased if she has the opportunity and support to continue in school throughout her education.

Schemes like this can also give children who may not otherwise get the chance to engage with music in school the opportunity to and this can only enhance their all round learning experience.”

The 30th anniversary campaign will also see limited edition Casio products being released, with Myleene involved in the launch of stunning new anniversary additions to Casio’s Privia and Celviano ranges.

Meet Kindred Spirits

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Myleene Klass with Kindred SpiritsAs the ambassador for EMI Classics, Myleene is regularly sent material from new artists and groups on the label and the moment she heard a demo of the choir, Kindred Spirits, she was smitten. Having met the children, Myleene agreed to support Kindred Spirits and help with any promotional activity she will be able to fulfil.

Myleene said, “The moment I heard the demo CD of Kindred Spirits, I knew I wanted to be involved in the project. Maybe it's because I'm a new mum, but these children are adorable and so talented.

A choir with a difference, Kindred Spirits features over 20 members aged between 6 and 14. Following extensive auditions, the choir embraces the diversity of 21st Century Britain, featuring children one would see in any classroom or playground up and down the country. Talented, professional and hugely excited about the project, the childrens' enthusiasm exudes through every track on the album.

The album features the choir's own take on tracks as diverse as Coldplay's ‘Fix You', ‘Here Comes The Sun' and the Christmas carol, ‘In The Bleak Midwinter.' Recorded over the summer in London, the album is set to become a ‘must have' this Christmas. Members of Kindred Spirits include Nyota Izeidi (10) from South East London; Flora Grace Higgins (10) from Southwark; Patrick Bell (12) from North London and Jenna Katie Harris (13) from Totteridge, who helped her grandmother overcome a stroke and regain her speech by singing Abba at her bedside.

Talking about the album, Myleene said "Classical music is tranquil, expressive, passionate and emotive. I don't want people to feel intimidated by it. There's nothing to fear, only lots to discover." Myleene has selected many of her favorite pieces for the album many of which mean something to Myleene.

Such pieces include Nyman's The Heart Asks for Pleasure First "[I] love playing this at concerts as people recognise it instantly from the movie 'the piano' and also because having literally bumped into Michael Nyman's daughter a few months ago, she told me her dad really liked my version of playing it………BRILLIANT!". Also Smetana: The Moldau which Myleene states as "One of the very first pieces let alone classical compositions I was introduced to and its still one of my favourites."

The album takes you on a romantic music adventure, through hills and forests, over rivers and streams into your heart. Its a perfect compilation album for those new to classical music, and for those who aren't.
