Classical Brit Awards
Musician, broadcaster and TV presenter, the multi-talented Myleene hosted the prestigious awards when they returned to the Royal Albert Hall for the ninth consecutive year on Thursday 8 May 2008. The highlight of the UK’s classical calendar, The Classical BRIT Awards with NS&I, saw the world’s greatest operatic voices, musicians and classical performers take to the stage alongside the brightest new talents for an evening of celebration and captivating world-exclusive performances.
"The Classical BRITS is the biggest event in the classical calendar’ commented Myleene. “To be the host is a personal highlight in my career. I'm really looking forward to presenting a ceremony that is so close to my heart and I'm sure it will be a magical evening."
The evening climaxed with a show-stopping world-exclusive debut duet from the world’s most famous tenor, Andrea Bocelli and the world’s greatest soprano Anna Netrebko. The event, broadcast on ITV1 on 15 May, celebrated the diversity of the classical music genre, bringing together major operatic stars and classical musicians with the performers that are set to dominate the classical charts in the future.
The biggest show in the history of the Classical BRIT Awards featured performances from Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman who reunited for a rendition of ‘Canto Della Terra’, cellist Steven Isserlis performing Bach, Suite No.5 in C Minor ‘Sarabande’, soprano Anna Netrebko with ‘Les Filles de Cadix’, Josh Groban performed ‘February Song’ followed by a rendition of ‘Navarra’ a piece for 2 violins performed by David Garrett and Valeriy Sokolov who were accompanied by Chinese guitarist Xuefei Yang. Hayley Westenra and Jonathan Ansell took to the stage to perform ‘Un Giorno Per Noi’ before Sarah Brightman returned with Andrew Swait to perform ‘Pie Jesu’ in recognition of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem. The show came to a close as two of the world’s greatest operatic talents Andrea Bocelli and Anna Netrebko performed together for the very first time singing ‘Brindisi’. The London Chamber Orchestra conducted by David Charles Abell accompanied all performers.
